Woodworking was always meant to be passed down.
That’s why we’re still here.
The Woodwork Shop began more than 25 years ago as a family business, built around pride in the craft and a deep respect for working with your hands. After all this time, it’s still a place where knowledge is shared, skills are learned, and people take their time to make things well.
When Mrs. Rita decided it was time to retire at the end of 2025, she chose not to sell her shop to a large corporation. Instead, she passed the shop on to people who understood its role in the community—an employee and a longtime customer—so it could continue on as local, independent, and rooted in legacy.
“This place is heaven for a woodworker, and the employees are so polite and helpful.”
“I love this shop. It’s my toy store. Great selection of exotic woods for crafts and woodworking. Well stocked inventory of unique wood tools.”
What woodworkers need.
The world has changed, and so have the needs of woodworkers. That’s why we’ve expanded thoughtfully—bringing in more inventory than ever before, more domestic and exotic hardwoods, more sheet goods, and the kind of fine, reliable tools people trust with their hands.
Whether you’re a beginner making your first cutting board or an experienced woodworker chasing a long-planned project, our staff—all woodworkers themselves—are here to help you choose the right tools and materials without pressure or pretense.
We’ll never sell you more than you need, and we’ll always make sure you feel confident and safe using what you buy.
A place where craft is shared.
Woodworking doesn’t survive on tools alone. It survives through people—through teaching, hands-on experience, and community.
That’s why we’re committed not just to selling products, but to sharing the craft itself.
From helping first-timers get started to supporting professionals, everything we do is in support of our local woodworking community.
We’re proud to be the only dedicated woodworking retailer within 200 miles, and even prouder to be keeping woodworking alive in Memphis by passing it on—one project, one demo, one conversation at a time.
“Fair pricing, excellent stock of wood, tools, hardware, and supplies. Classes and exhibits for every level of skill.”
“A great woodworking store. Nice people and a great selection. I'm so glad that the Memphis area has a shop like this.”
