“This is the best plywood available in the world.”

Russian Baltic Birch in Memphis
Baltic birch is what most people think they’re getting when they buy plywood.
Most of what’s sold in big box stores isn’t even close.
At The Woodwork Shop, we stock real Baltic birch plywood—void-free cores, consistent plies, and faces you can actually build with.
What Makes Baltic Birch Different?
More plies, thinner layers
Minimal or no voids in the core
Strong edges that can be exposed
Stays flatter over time
This is why it’s used for:
Drawer boxes
Shop cabinets
Jigs and fixtures
Painted cabinetry
Who This Is For
Woodworkers who need flat jigs and fixtures for their shop
Furniture builders who care about joinery
Cabinetmakers who want to use the good stuff
Serious DIYers tired of fighting warped sheets
What We Stock
This plywood is sold in 5’ x 5’ squares, not your typical 4’ x 8’ sheets. This makes it easier to carry by hand, but it can be difficult to transport in the bed of many trucks—come with a trailer, or be prepared to buy our half-sheets or quarter-sheets.
If you need a sheet cut down, we can do that for you (for a small fee). We keep the following thicknesses of Baltic birch in-stock at all times, but if you need a larger quantity, please call ahead: (901) 755-7355.
1/8”, 3/16”, 1/4”, 3/8”, 1/2”, 5/8”, 3/4”
If you’re searching for Baltic birch plywood near Memphis, or anywhere in the Mid-South, you won’t find a more complete or knowledgeable source nearby. Customers routinely travel from up to 200 miles away because selection, experience, and trust still matter. If you are driving in from out of town, give us a call and let us know you’re coming—we’ll make sure we have what you’re looking for and can even pull some samples for you.

No, not even close. Most big box “birch plywood” has a softwood core with thin birch veneer.
Baltic birch is built from many thin plies of birch with minimal voids, which makes it stronger, flatter, and more consistent.
-
Because the edges are clean and strong.
You can machine joinery into it without hitting voids, and it holds screws well.

Yes. It’s commonly used for painted cabinetry and shop cabinets.
It also finishes well clear if you like the layered edge look.

It is more stable than most plywood, but it is still wood.
You’re starting with good material.
-
Probably not, but we will cut it for you for a small shop fee. Be sure to measure the opening in your car first!
By the way, it doesn’t fit really well in the back of a truck, so it’s better to bring a trailer if you have access to one. Our guys will load it for you safely and help you prevent damage in transit.
